Snow clearing at rebuild properties
Snow clearing responsibilities vary depending on rebuild status and permits. For destroyed properties not under active rebuild, or active rebuilds without a street and public space use (SPSU) permit, the Municipality of Jasper will clear snow when access is available. Please ensure vehicles are parked about 1 foot back from sidewalks, and builders must keep fencing at least 1 foot off the sidewalk on the property side to ensure that the sidewalk ploughs can get through.
Where a builder has an SPSU permit for the sidewalk, the builder is in care and control of the permitted area, and snow clearing is their responsibility.
Thank you for helping keep sidewalks safe and accessible this winter.

Winter builds
Concrete pours can continue in cold temperatures. There are various methods contractors can use to safely complete this work, and safety inspectors can conduct check-ins throughout the process. If you have questions about construction activity, there are resources available. You can speak directly with your contractor or contact the Canadian Red Cross construction experts at ABrebuild@redcross.ca.

Photographing rebuilds
We recognize that many are interested in capturing footage of rebuild progress. With homeowner permission, we fully support photography and videography, as long as it does not involve drones and does not impact access to public spaces i.e. sidewalks, roads etc.
Please note that the takeoff or landing of drones anywhere within Jasper National Park is strictly prohibited, and requests for drone use related to individual rebuild projects cannot be approved. Parks Canada continues to document overall community progress for Jasper Rebuild.
Storing materials on a neighbouring lot?
Due to limited availability of space for storing materials and equipment near construction sites, many have been using neighbouring lots as temporary laydown. As a leaseholder you can decide whether or not you want this to happen on your property. An email has been sent to all leaseholders identifying key points to consider when entering into an agreement of this sort.
Marmot Pit winter closure
Marmot Pit closes December 20, 2025, a change from the original November 15 date based on industry input. Until the December 20 closure, Marmot Pit is open from 7:30 am until 5 pm. After December 20, the pit will close for the winter and will reopen in spring 2026. Please plan your remaining soil and debris needs with this final date in mind.
We recognize that there is pressure for those managing tight construction timelines. While winter use of the pit isn’t possible, there are several options available:
- On-site storage at active construction locations
- Private arrangements with neighbouring lots or other sites within town
- Disposal locations outside the park boundary
Parks Canada is continuing to explore additional soil storage options for spring 2026, and we will share updates as soon as they are available.
For full details on Marmot Pit requirements and operational dates, visit the Parks Canada Marmot Pit Regulations page.

Online utilities map
The MoJ has recently set up a new online utilities map that shows the approximate location of water, sewer and stormwater infrastructure in town. This information can be helpful in preparing site plans and knowing where to plan to connect to municipal services. Link: https://www.jasper-alberta.ca/p/utilitymap
Need power?
Apply to get your power and natural gas services reconnected. You'll need to submit a 'new connection request' to ATCO Gas and to ATCO Electric here to get that process started: https://www.atco.com/en-ca/businesses/atco-energy-...
Once you've submitted an application, a representative from ATCO will reach out to you to confirm details about overhead or underground connections and tie-in procedures.
You should submit service connection requests ahead of the time that you need power or heat so that ATCO representatives will be able to work with you to finalize the connection plans to avoid delays in your construction process.
