Marmot Pit winter closure
Marmot Pit closes December 20, 2025, a change from the original November 15 date based on industry input. Until the December 20 closure, Marmot Pit is open from 7:30 am until 5 pm. After December 20, the pit will close for the winter and will reopen in spring 2026. Please plan your remaining soil and debris needs with this final date in mind.
We recognize that there is pressure for those managing tight construction timelines. While winter use of the pit isn’t possible, there are several options available:
- On-site storage at active construction locations
- Private arrangements with neighbouring lots or other sites within town
- Disposal locations outside the park boundary
Parks Canada is continuing to explore additional soil storage options for spring 2026, and we will share updates as soon as they are available.
For full details on Marmot Pit requirements and operational dates, visit the Parks Canada Marmot Pit Regulations page.
ATCO's pause for the holidays
With the holiday season upon us, ATCO has indicated that new service installations will be paused from approximately December 19 through January 5 due to limited operator availability. They are also requesting that builders ensure final grade, gas and electric meter locations, and the location of the garage are clearly marked on site in advance to support efficient gas service installation when work resumes. ATCO gas can be reached at: 310-5678 (in Alberta) or 1-888-511-7550 (outside Alberta), and ATCO electric at 1-800-668-2248.
Holiday permit timelines and expectations
The Urban Design and Standards Department (the ones who review and approve SPSU permits) will be closed from December 24 to January 5.
To ensure your work can proceed during this period, please note:
- Deadline to submit SPSU permits for work happening over the holiday closure: December 17
- Applications received after the deadline will be reviewed once the department reopens on January 5
Snow clearing at rebuild properties
Snow clearing responsibilities vary depending on rebuild status and permits. For destroyed properties not under active rebuild, or active rebuilds without a street and public space use (SPSU) permit, the Municipality of Jasper will clear snow when access is available. Please ensure vehicles are parked about 1 foot back from sidewalks, and builders must keep fencing at least 1 foot off the sidewalk on the property side to ensure that the sidewalk ploughs can get through.
Where a builder has an SPSU permit for the sidewalk, the builder is in care and control of the permitted area, and snow clearing is their responsibility.
Thank you for helping keep sidewalks safe and accessible this winter.
Winter transition for water and sewer utility tie-ins
The Municipality of Jasper will be transitioning municipal water and sewer utility connections to winter operations, effective January 1, 2026. Utility tie-ins will be available again beginning May 1, 2026.
Weather permitting, the Utilities Team will make every effort to complete outstanding connections that have already been coordinated with Construction Coordinator Stef Dolan or submitted through an approved water and sewer utility request. Applicants will be contacted directly to confirm timelines.
If coordination or requests have not yet been submitted, municipal utility tie-ins will be deferred until spring servicing resumes. Contractors may elect to complete utility tie-ins independently during the winter period at their expense but must notify the Municipality of Jasper in advance. Municipal staff will attend the site to review the work and document that the Municipality was not involved in completing the connections.
For questions or to finalize plans, please contact Construction Coordinator Stef Dolan at 780-931-7833.
Trenching for utilities in Cabin Creek
All 3rd party (gas, electric, telecommunications) in Cabin Creek (including the Patricia Street Crescent, Swift Crescent and Brewster Crescent) have now been trenched into a single shared trench on private leasehold land, with the former utility lines running parallel. To ensure safe and efficient rebuilds, all contractors must review ATCO’s deep service excavation details on their website and their attachment before beginning any work on connecting to municipal water and waste-water services.
ATCO notes the following:
- The powerline and gas lines in Cabin Creek are now energized and pressurized. Excavating near them poses a safety risk
- Locates are required - they must be called in and completed prior to any ground disturbance
- ATCO must be notified at least two weeks before excavation begins by calling 1-800-668-2248
- Because lines are energized, contractors must hydrovac or hand-expose and positively identify any lines when working within 1 metre of locate flags
- Please note: additional buried facilities may be present in the area
- Builders are responsible for all costs associated with this work
Business Recovery Bulletin has launched
The Jasper Recovery Coordination Centre (JRCC) has launched the Business Recovery Bulletin to share business-focused recovery updates from the Municipality of Jasper and Parks Canada’s joint recovery centre. The bulletins highlight new information, programs, and announcements that may affect businesses and their operations.

Photographing rebuilds
We recognize that many of you are interested in capturing footage of rebuild progress. With homeowner permission, we fully support photography and videography, as long as it does not involve drones and does not impact access to public spaces i.e. sidewalks, roads etc.
Please note that the takeoff or landing of drones anywhere within Jasper National Park is strictly prohibited, and requests for drone use related to individual rebuild projects cannot be approved. Parks Canada continues to document overall community progress for Jasper Rebuild.
Storing materials on a neighbouring lot?
Due to limited availability of space for storing materials and equipment near construction sites, many have been using neighbouring lots as temporary laydown. If this is you, make sure that you have an agreement in place with the leaseholder. An email has been sent to all leaseholders identifying key points to consider when entering into an agreement of this sort. If you do not have an agreement in place, this is trespassing and RCMP will be involved if necessary.

Sub-Contractor registration
Prime Contractors with a business license can register sub-contractors using a new form on the Municipality of Jasper webpage: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?i...
Registering your sub-contractors gets them the same benefits as having a full business license: free entry to the Park through National Park work passes and free parking in residential and paid parking areas (you still have to abide by the parking time rules).
Online utilities map
The MoJ has recently set up a new online utilities map that shows the approximate location of water, sewer and stormwater infrastructure in town. This information can be helpful in preparing site plans and knowing where to plan to connect to municipal services. Link: https://www.jasper-alberta.ca/p/utilitymap
Need power?
Apply to get your power and natural gas services reconnected. You'll need to submit a 'new connection request' to ATCO Gas and to ATCO Electric here to get that process started: https://www.atco.com/en-ca/businesses/atco-energy-...
Once you've submitted an application, a representative from ATCO will reach out to you to confirm details about overhead or underground connections and tie-in procedures.
You should submit service connection requests ahead of the time that you need power or heat so that ATCO representatives will be able to work with you to finalize the connection plans to avoid delays in your construction process.
