Rebuild Guide updated for the 2026 construction season
The Rebuild Guide has been refreshed for the 2026 construction season to better support residents, property owners, and industry professionals navigating the rebuild process.
This guide has step-by-step information on designing your building, submitting permit applications, and understanding available programs, along with tips to help avoid common issues and delays. You’ll also find guidance on building with wildfire, climate, and wildlife considerations in mind, as well as information on housing options like accessory dwelling units.
Whether you’re in the early planning stages or preparing to submit an application, we encourage you to review the latest version of the guide. Access the updated Rebuild Guide here: https://parks.canada.ca/pn-np/ab/jasper/gestion-ma...
For questions or additional support, please contact the Parks Canada Development Office at jasperdevelopment@pc.gc.ca.
Utility Form
Primes and Architects - please ensure that you are using the most up-to-date Development Utility Application form which can be found here: https://jasper-alberta.ca/Home/DownloadDocument?docId=06f8365a-ab84-45e9-978d-197da05215cc
This will help ensure that the MOJ team gets the information that we need so that you can get your municipal approval letter efficiently and so that our construction coordinator can get in touch with the right members of your team when needed.
PS. Keep an eye on the webpage - we're looking to move to an online form in the near future.
Reminder: Drone Use Prohibited in Jasper National Park
We recognize that many of you are interested in capturing footage of rebuild progress. Filming progress of homes does not meet the criteria for drone use in Jasper National Park. With homeowner permission, we fully support photography and videography, as long as it does not involve drones.
Please note that the takeoff or landing of drones anywhere within Jasper National Park is strictly prohibited, and requests for drone use related to individual rebuild projects cannot be approved. Parks Canada continues to document overall community progress for Jasper Rebuild.
Thank you for helping us comply with park regulations and maintain a safe airspace.
Permit Conditions - Keeping food out of construction waste bins
Parks inspectors have noticed food waste in construction bins. Especially now that bears are awake for the summer; please separate your garbage by putting any food-related items like pizza boxes, cans, or coffee cups into the bearproof bins, NOT construction waste bins. Properly separating and managing garbage is a critical component of human-wildlife coexistence.
Separating food waste out of construction waste is a requirement of Development Permit c onditions and non-compliance may result in fines or work stoppages.
Busy season for street closures
With spring well underway, we're seeing an increased number of street closure permit requests. To ensure that all requests are able to be accommodated, please submit applications at least 5 days ahead of the scheduled date.
It is ok to cancel or change the date of closures ahead of time but we'd rather hear from you sooner so that you can have a permit in hand well ahead of time. Prime contractors can also apply for Rebuild Street Use Permits for the length of a project to reduce timelines for simple closures like deliveries, concrete pours and storing materials on the street.
Street closures that include excavation within the Municipal road or alley require an additional refundable damage deposit to mitigate costs from damages to municipal infrastructure.
Visit the Municipality's Street and Public Space Use Permit webpage for more information: https://jasper-alberta.ca/p/street-and-public-spac... or reach out to townplanning@jasper-alberta.ca.
Repeated – Insurance Claim Extensions and Summer Accommodations
Insurance Claim Extensions
If you have an open insurance claim from the 2024 wildfire, the 2-year deadline is approaching, and you may need to request an extension to keep your claim moving forward.
What you should do now:
- Check your deadline with your insurer - Contact your insurer to confirm your claim status and your exact limitation date.
- Request a written extension if there is a possibility that your claim won't be resolved in time.
- Make your request at least 1 month before your deadline.
- Ensure any extension is provided in writing.
If you plan to dispute your claim: You may need to file a Statement of Claim before the deadline to protect your rights.
Don't wait - once the deadline passes, you may lose the ability to legal action.
